new years eve.

I spent New Years Eve with Jake; running around Edinburgh. I had such a lovely time - here's a little run-through of my day/night!

Starting off with a delicious breakfast was definitely the way to go.

We went to The Elephant House for afternoon tea - the cafe where J.K. Rowling wrote Harry Potter! We sat up the back and had a magnificent view of Edinburgh Castle.

After we'd warmed up a bit, it was back out into the cold. We wandered around and had a look in a few shops. We went down Victoria Street, this beautiful street with quirky shops. I ended up buying a really cute balloon brooch from The Red Door Gallery (I could have easily purchased the whole store though!).

We stopped by the Illusionist Museum, but unfortunately the camera obscura section was closed for the day so we decided to go back another day to experience it all. However - that didn't stop us from perusing the gift shop!

Later on we went back to my apartment for dinner and champagne. Then it was a quick bit of lipstick and out to Hogmanay!

We went to the Concert in the Gardens and saw The View perform live.

Hogmanay is pretty big on the fireworks. They had displays on the hour every hour from 9pm til midnight.

After The View were off stage (around 11pm), we escaped from the crowded street party to a little wine bar called The Beehive around the corner from Edinburgh Castle.

At ten minutes to midnight, we swiped the bottle of wine and ran outside to find a cozy patch of grass underneath the castle to view the midnight fireworks. We rang in the new year, bottle of red wine in hand, underneath a castle of fireworks and surrounded by rabbits. Glorious.
